My Favorite All-Inclusive WordPress Moving Checklist

When I first started developing WordPress themes for a business, I was a little worried about messing things up.

Just kidding; I was petrified. The part that haunted me and clouded most of my nightmares had nothing to do with my code, though. It had everything to do with moving WordPress.

There are so many intricate parts to WordPress sites, that a million things could go wrong with moving it.

So, how did I get past this fear? Aside from “practice, practice, practice,” I found a tried-and-true checklist from a trusted resource:

Smashing Magazine’s Moving A WordPress Website Without Hassle

I highly recommend using this resource if you are still getting comfortable with WordPress. And remember, site launches and site moves are always going to be the least-familiar part of your job, because they are the least-used skills. So there is no shame in being afraid!

Happy Saturday!

Update: A colleague pointed out that this checklist does not include anything about copying MX records or DNS settings. So please keep that in mind when you are moving a site that utilizes a remote email service and/or DKIM & SPF records for transactional email.
